This is a foundation where you can read the whole budget in two minutes and know the name of everyone who decides anything. That is deliberate, and it is what we can offer that a large charity cannot.

Monthly

Monthly gifts are what let us commit to a student with confidence. They are worth more to us than anything else on this page.

How many students we help is decided by this page. We take on a student once that student’s support is funded, so every place we open is one we can see through to the end. The number of places is the number of years that have been funded.

$50a month — $600 over a year.
$100a month — $1,200 over a year.
$150a month — $1,800 over a year.

Where the money goes

The whole budget, on one page

The figures below are what we plan to give, updated with actuals as money goes out. Our fiscal year runs June 1 to May 31, so our IRS filings group gifts by that year rather than by calendar year.

If a number here is unclear, ask us and we will explain it or correct it.

Local service groups$3,000

$1,000 each to a fire department, a police department and an ambulance corps. Given outright, no application, no conditions.

Students — tutoring, exams, materialsas donations allow

Each time a student’s support is funded, we take on one more. Paid to tutors, the College Board, booksellers and schools, or reimbursed to a family against a receipt.

Nobody is paid a salary. The board serves without compensation, no one takes a fee or a percentage of funds raised, and the website costs the foundation nothing to run.

What we will and will not do

You may designate a gift to Chay Scholars, to local service groups, or to wherever it is needed most. A designated gift is a legal restriction, and we track it from the day it arrives.

Gifts cannot be directed to a specific individual. A gift earmarked for a named person is not a deductible charitable contribution, and accepting one would put our exemption at risk.
